Make one of these Baby Bunny Stroller Blankets for a little one in your family! These are done with Corner-2-Corner (C2C) crochet using double crochet stitches. Made with Bernat Softee Baby yarn, they are incredibly soft! They are small, about 24 x 32 inches, so they work up very quickly and are a perfect size for a quick cover-up in the stroller or car-seat.
The bunny pattern was created using the Grid Designer. The free color chart is shared here as well as complete free instructions for the blanket. The color chart and instructions are free for personal use only.
What is Grid Designer?
The Grid Designer is a new, free, on-line tool for drawing and creating colored craft charts for your own patterns. Create your own designs for knitting, crochet graphghans, C2C, diamond painting, latch hook, cross-stitch and more, using the Grid Designer.
I am the creator and developer of the Grid Designer software. It is my retirement project after 30 years as a software engineer. It is my free gift to the crafting community. It keeps me busy during my retirement and keeps me connected to others. Read more about the Grid Designer.
The Blanket
The finished blanket measures 24 x 32 inches.
The internal panel, with the bunny pattern is worked in double-crochet C2C with a gauge of 6 blocks === 3 5/8 (3.625) inches and size G crochet hook. The panel size is about 20 x 28 inches.
Rows of double crochet are then worked around the bunny panel to reach the size of 24 x 32.
Bernat Softee Baby yarn was used. The blue blanket was made with White, Pale Blue and Blue Jeans. It appears to me that Blue Jeans is no longer available, so I would suggest using Navy in its place. The pink blanket was made with White, Prettiest Pink, and Petunia.
The Bunny Panel
The bunny panel was created in the Grid Designer by down-loading a bunny silhouette from pixabay.com. Here is a video showing how that was done.

Crochet Bunny Panel
Although I have been crocheting for 40 years or so, this was my first-ever C2C project. If you are already familiar with crochet, C2C is very easy to pick up. I watched some youtube videos, and there are many, many of those to choose from. I particularly like this video, as I already knew the crochet basics and this was very clear and easy to follow: How to Crochet C2C Corner to Corner.
In terms of changing colors, I just did that as I usually do, on the third crochet, wait until you have only 2 loops left on the hook, then pull the new color through to start it where you need it. There are videos out there, though, on changing colors and carrying yarn. Youtube has an amazing wealth of how-to videos in this area.
In any case, my directions assume that you are familiar with C2C crochet and understand how to work it and change colors, etc.
Here is the main chart for the bunny panel:
You can download the chart by right-clicking on it and selecting “Save Image as…” or get a copy of the chart in a PDF file with written directions here: Download PDF with written directions.
The project is also saved as a shared Grid Designer project here: Bunny Project. To get a copy of the project to edit in Grid Designer, click on Bunny Project, then click the “Load as Project” link.
Notice that the numbering starts in the lower right corner; this is where I worked the pattern from.
Either by following the chart or the written directions, work the bunny panel in C2C from the bottom right corner.
Crochet Border
Getting the border started was the hard part, as I was not clear on how to start around the C2C blocks. I found these directions on repeatcrafterme.com. Starting with these directions, I worked the border like this:
Row 1: With Pale Blue (or Prettiest Pink), starting in a space between 2 C2C blocks, (SC, chain 2)* around, with each SC in a space between 2 C2C blocks. In each corner work SC, chain 2, SC.
Row 2: Continuing with Pale Blue (or Prettiest Pink), work 2 SC in each chain 2 space. In each corner work SC, chain 2, SC in chain 2 space.
Row 3: With White, work DC in each SC around. In each corner work 2 DC, chain 2, 2 DC in each chain 2 space.
Row 4: With Blue Jeans or Navy (or Petunia), work DC in each SC around. In each corner work 2 DC, chain 2, 2 DC in each chain 2 space.
Row 5: With White, work DC in each SC around. In each corner work 2 DC, chain 2, 2 DC in each chain 2 space.
Weave in the ends and you are done!
